Gender Discriminatory Campaign Supported by the Luxembourg Ministry of Education, Children and Youth

It came to our attention that Ministry of Education, Children and Youth, UNICEF Luxembourg along with other government sponsored organizations have involved themselves in the campaign ”STOP PUNITIONS CORPORELLES IL EXISTE D’AUTRES SOLUTIONS”.

If there was a need for a photo of a parent hitting a child to be the main theme of the campaign there should be two photos. Not only a father hitting a child but also a mother doing exactly the same thing. Unless we of course assume that fathers are the violent predators and this is what fathers do and all mothers are the living angels on earth.

During the meeting with the Ministry of Education we were told that a similar photo could not be found and that only one version of the poster was produced due to limited funds assigned to the campaign……. Below you can find 2 photos being a part of a series of photos available on stock photo based websites.

Pictures speak louder than words and we need to inform you that FAD has already contacted Minister Claude MEISCH, Ministry of Education, Children and Youth, Minister Taina BOFFERDING, Ministry for Equal Rights between Women and Men, UNICEF Luxembourg but most importantly Prime Minister Xavier BETTEL (all letters HERE) informing them that the photo used in the campaign is beyond unacceptable.

The idea and the reasons behind the launch of the campaign although noble, its gender bias narrative supported by the Luxembourg Ministry of Education, Children and Youth is to be considered highly inappropriate and disrespectful to thousands of Luxembourg fathers, not mentioning confusion the mentioned narrative imposes on the Luxembourg children. Greatly disappointing approach further adding to the profound misrepresentation of facts and bias insinuation communicating to the public that men are the only cause of domestic violence and women and children are the only victims of it. The campaign plays a role of a marketing tool for gender-parental discriminatory practices labeled by the Luxembourg government office.

Failing in taking appropriate measures with regards to the photo and the content of the marketing material associated with the campaign will only confirm that Luxembourg Ministry of Education, Children and Youth as well as other organizations involved in the campaign approve gender bias and discriminatory practices.

Also, please be informed we have already reached out to the Platform for European Fathers (PEF) and sought for legal opinion discussing potential necessary steps to take if the Ministry continues with the campaign in current shape and form. Should this be the case we will have no other choice but to file a criminal complaint resulting in collective legal actions against the distributor / distributors of the material for disparagement crime.

A child should never be deprived of his natural human right to family life and equal access to both parents. Nor does anyone have the right to decide which of his parents’ love has more value.

Please sign FAD Petition and help Equal Shared Parenting – Alternating Residence become a rule and a starting point for all custody hearings in Luxembourg. We can change things and protect the children.
