On 20 December 2018 a Danish Shared Parenting Family Reform has been decided in the Danish Parliament with all votes in favor and Denmark on April 1st, 2019 has become one of the first countries in the World introducing Default Shared Parenting, Double Residency Address and Shared Welfare Benefits Law After Separation of Parents with Shared Custody and Equal Shared Parenting (50/50) being already today the norm in the daily life in Denmark.

The Danish Shared Parenting Family Reform

As a result of the introduction of the new Family Law in Denmark, the Danish Government has decided to close state administration that has been dealing with family issues up to that point as a clear signal of a new shared parenting culture. A new family court has been established handling all family cases in a Green, Yellow and Red groups based on the shared parenting capabilities.

As a new approach all parents have started to participate in online courses and receive information about the best interest of children and positive parental collaboration post separation. All public workers started participating in educational classes and all children in yellow and red groups were to have an appointed children counsellor.

The challenge has been set to achieve full gender equality in family law in 2019-2020 based on shared parenting and work-life benefits for children, families and society with a background idea that the future international family law should be based on shared parenting behavior – and not gender.
